Q: What does my serial number mean? When was my guitar built?

A: We are sorry that we cannot provide any information on guitars built before 2011. All Sigma Guitars produced post‑2011 use a 9‑digit serial number to identify the production details of the guitar in a year/month/piece number format. e.g. 260100001 (26 = 2026, 01 = January, 00001 = Instrument #1 produced in that particular production month)

Q: What does the “+” in my model name mean?

A: During the period of time where there were CITES and excessive taxation on exports of Dalbergia latifolia (Indian Rosewood) we quickly swapped out the rosewood bridges and fretboards where applicable for Micarta and Maple for bridge plates. To differentiate between “old” stock using Indian Rosewood and “new” stock using Micarta, we added a “+” to the Micarta models. In most cases this is the only difference. In the meantime, post-this 2017/2018 transition, we have since fully adopted Micarta and since dropped the “+” from the model designation.

Q: What is Micarta?

A: Micarta is a thermoset material combining elements like wood, canvas, fiberglass, etc into a substance almost literally impervious to weather and humidity. Contrary to popular belief and confusion with other materials (like Rosetec) Micarta is actually more expensive than tone woods like Indian Rosewood and is a very reliable material in modern guitar building. Because it is a thermoset material it is non‑porous and can be cleaned with more universal cleaners and does not need to be heavily oiled. Micarta is not used on all models and is clearly labeled in the specs on our website.

Q: I’m looking for a specific model, or spec combinations, but don’t know what series it’s in. How do I find it?

A: Try out the “FIND YOUR SIGMA” function at the top of the page! It’s a filter system that helps you navigate our very diverse program at Sigma Guitars. You can filter out specs as simple as “dreadnought” or a preferred fretboard width, down to the specifics of tone woods and use of a pickup system. This allows you to glimpse through our program without having to memorize the specific specs that each series offers. Then using the “DEALERS” tab at the top of the page you can contact a Sigma Distributor or Dealer in your country with a link to the exact guitar you’re looking for!
